Your finished Long Island Basement

Having a basement built can mean different things to different people. You might need more storage, relocating the living room, making room for the kids, creating an apartment for the parents or for income or for the kids. Your new basement can be as fancy or as simple as you can afford. Some people work nights and prefer to move their bedroom downstairs so light and noise from outside is diminished. This allows for better sleeping arrangements for the night worker.

Basements are a valuable asset to any home. The extra space allows you more living options and increases the value of your home. If you plan on finishing your basement make sure you use a reputable company that will assess your preexisting conditions and build a basement to those standards.

Moisture should always be considered a problem in any basement. Don't be fooled if it feels dry because moisture tends to move or present itself at different times of the year. You want to be prepared for the times the moisture is more threatening. A rainy season might be a problem for you or early spring when the snow melts. Maybe your gutters fail and water builds up along your foundation. If you have a well built foundation you'll be better protected from these hazards.

A qualified Long Island basement contractor will build you a basement that you can rely on. It usually takes longer to build a real finished basement than those modular snap together basements. If you need a quick in and out job that's fine but make sure you ask them about what technique they use to mitigate moisture. If it sounds good then you should go for it. You should get at least two different contractors for a price. One of those modular types and one for a real finished basement.
